U.S. arming Sunnis in Iraq to battle old Qaeda allies

Of all the dumb moves made by the US government in this fake “War On Terror”, this is way up there.

“With the four-month-old increase in American troops showing only modest success in curbing insurgent attacks, American commanders are turning to another strategy that they acknowledge is fraught with risk: arming Sunni Arab groups that have promised to fight militants linked with Al Qaeda who have been their allies in the past.”

Don’t be surprised when these weapons turn on our soldiers. That’s why it is called “blowback”.

In Afghanistan IN THE 1980’S, the US supported warlords and the Islamist groups in their fight against the Soviet Union’s invasion. Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, Osama bin Laden, were among these who got billions of dollars of funding from the CIA via Pakistan. They received military training from Pakistan too paid by the CIA.

Robin Cook, former leader of the British House of Commons and Foreign Secretary from 1997-2001, wrote in The Guardian on Friday, July 8, 2005,

“Bin Laden was, though, a product of a monumental miscalculation by western security agencies. Throughout the 80s he was armed by the CIA and funded by the Saudis to wage jihad against the Russian occupation of Afghanistan. Al-Qaida, literally “the database”, was originally the computer file of the thousands of mujahideen who were recruited and trained with help from the CIA to defeat the Russians.”

Bin Laden went on to form al-Qaeda and the rest of the Pushtun mujahideen formed what became the Taliban.

The training and arms that that al-Qaeda and Taliban received (courtesy of the US taxpayer) was used against the US when the US soldiers were on the receiving end of US Stinger Ray rocket launchers in 2001.
