The Persecution of Sami Al-Arian

Why do the corporate media in this country refuse to cover this story?

Sami Al-Arian is in dire condition. The jailed Palestinian professor has lost over 50 pounds as he enters the 54th day of a hunger strike to protest the circumstances of his continued imprisonment. We speak with his wife, Nahla Al-Arian.

Sami Al-Arian has spent the past four years in jail despite a jury’s failure over a year ago to return a single guilty verdict on any of the 17 charges brought against him. He eventually signed a plea deal with the government in exchange for being released and deported.

It would displease our Israeli masters if the corporate media in this country started objective reporting and actually being “fair and balanced”.

Sami Al-Arian is an American citizen, was one of the most active lecturing professors in North America, his only crime was his outspokenness against Israeli war crimes and policies like bulldozing Palestinian homes and putting settlements on them. He was very effective in his talking, helping to expose Israeli war crimes and its unjust occupation and persecution of the Palestinian people and their lands.

The government believed he was helping a Palestinian cause that is on the government’s “terrorist list”. Not much is required to get on that list. Any charity that condemns Israeli policies or supports Palestinian refugee victims whose homes are bulldozed is a terrorist organization. While Israeli terrorist groups like JDL (they actually plotted to kill a US Republican Congressman who was an Arab and were plotting to bomb a mosque next door to my former employment in Culver City) and Kach and Kahane (on the US State Dept terrorist list as well) freely operate in this country.

4 years in jail – no charges brought yet. Courtesy of your friendly “Patriot Act”.

If you truly believe in freedom, justice and liberty for all, then help end Sami Al-Arian’s and his family’s suffering:

“To be patriotic is to be able to question government policy in times of crisis. To be patriotic is to stand up for the bill of rights and the Constitution in times of uncertainty and insecurity. To be patriotic is to speak up against the powerful in defense of the weak and the voiceless. To be patriotic is to challenge the abuses of the PATRIOT Act.”

-Dr. Sami Al-Arian – Civil Rights activist, Community Leader, Freedom Advocate.
